Starting this class I wasn’t sure what I would be learning. It’s great because all the things I’ve learned in this class have increased my knowledge of things I knew but never really put a word to. One of the first things we learned in class was inbound and outbound marketing techniques. Inbound marketing deals with creating content for customers or followers such as blogs, video content, or social media posts. This is something I don on the regular at my current job, except of course for blog posts. Being the person behind the creation of these things I can now accurately gauge how well a post or video is doing and better target our audience. With Outbound Marketing, you push things such as ads, website banners and the purchase of email lists which all of these are interesting and new ways I learned to push information to people. “There are about 80 million people in the United States that are on social media approximately. Not all 80 million might be looking for your product or service so that’s where an outbound marketing strategy works very well hand in hand with an inbound marketing strategy, (Zaryn Sidhu)”. Another new thing I learned in this class was Retargeting, this is a very sneaky way of cyberstalking potential customers. By using cookies on your website you can put a temporary website advertisement on someone’s computer to where your website will follow them regardless of the website you’re on. In all honesty, I might use this if I have to, but I’d personally stay as far away as I can from it. A big thing I’ll be taking back to my job at STC is how to manage our online reputation and the free tools that are out there. “Social media monitoring tools are important for collecting research on what topics you should be creating content about but also for monitoring the competition and seeing what it is they are doing that’s maybe making their campaign successful or maybe hurting their campaigns, (Steen, J.)”. I find this statement very true, in my research I’ve found that keeping track of content is very important so you’re not wasting company resources or time. Metrics had been a word I learned in my undergrad along with analytics but they didn’t really get into it. The cool thing is that being able to create infographics will allow me to show off the data I’ve learned and gathered to help others understand how important these things are. Digital Marketing Fundamentals was a great class and I really enjoyed it. My professor Maria Ferguson was very knowledgeable in Digital Marketing and was a great guide to help us throughout the year. Thank you, everyone, for all your help and assistance this past month, two down, ten more to go!
Best,
Gilbert Cruz
